Baptism Day

Ashlynn is officially a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of latter-Day Saints.  She had been looking forward to this day along with her birthday.  She is such a beautiful girl!

 She has had such great people in her life so far to show how to be a good example to others.  She was happy to see her school teacher (Ms Briggs), primary teacher from the last ward (Ms. Britney) and her new primary teacher( Ms. Ivy) and her piano teacher (Christa) was also there to support her.  We are also thankful for all the family and friends that came to support her as well.  I also loved that Ashlynn sang with her cousin Ann during the program.  It was a spiritual and beautiful moment.
I do have to add that the counselor from the primary (Amy Lloyd) did not have the right time of the baptism so she did not show and that left me to do the Primary Welcome for our cute little Ashlynn. Amy showed up 2 hours after the baptism and wondered why no one was there.  She then came over to our house to apologize for the mix up.  I was just glad to know she was okay and we did not have send out a search party for her. 

After the Baptism we had a ice cream buffet.  Ashlynn picked out all the toppings for celebration party.  We had hot fudge cake, apple crisp, hot caramel with all the other ice cream toppers.  It was hit!  It was a nice hot day to enjoy a cool treat!

 

Then for dinner that night Matt and I took Ashlynn out for dinner to Red Robin.  Carter went along with Grandma and Grandpa Peterson.  Ashlynn loved having us all to herself and her Oreo milk shake was delicious!

Ashlynn is EIGHT!!!

Ashlynn is EIGHT!! YAY!!  She has been looking forward to her birthday all year because it fell on a holiday this year (Memorial Day).  School was out and she was looking forward to her Carnival party.

 

 We started the day with our tradition of opening family presents first thing in the morning and headed out to breakfast to Ashlynn's choice (IHOP).  Then headed back home to set up for the party.

Ashlynn has been planning her carnival party for the past few months.  Matt made some pretty impressive games too.  Check out the Wheel of tickets, ball toss and dart board.  He made them so fun for the party with the bright colors and carnival fonts.

All the kids were given 10 tickets to start out with and then had to pay tickets to play the games, but then could win tickets back if they won the game.  At the end of their game playing they could pay tickets for prizes and food.  The snack food included slushies, hot dogs, popcorn and sodas.  The spin the wheel game cost 1 ticket to play but you could win up the 7 tickets back.  Some of the kids just kept on spinning the wheel to get more tickets.  I think all the games were a hit and everybody enjoyed it! The kids loved getting crazy for the photo booth.  Thanks again Tracy for capturing these fun photos.  I will be sending these photos with her friends thank you cards.

The trick candles were not planned but ended up being very funny to watch all the kids laughing as Ashlynn was blowing on the cake lots of times and then all her friends started blowing on the cake. I forgot to get new candles so all I had was the trick ones.  Too Funny! 

 

I am sad that this fun party has come to an end.  It was fun planning it out and seeing it come all together on her birthday.  Our family is thankful for this sweet girl and thankful for all her great friends.  I hope that Ashlynn can keep her free-fun spirited personality.  She is very funny, loves to help people and make fun little gifts for others.  I am glad she a wonderful day!   

Elementary Olympiad...

Carter was also invited to participate in the Math and Science Olympiad.  Carter and his teammate Garrett were put in charge of making a race car made out of pasta noodles.  With the help of Matt this is the car they created.  The car that went the longest in a straight path won the race.  There were several events that their school participated in and did well in.  Carter and Garrett did not place in their race but came in a close 4th, but they did have fun making the car. 

Carter and his friend were very lucky to be picked to participate in both the Olympiad and decathlon this year.  Both these competitions were fun to attend and watch all the kids have fun competing against other schools.  I love to see kids get invloved and active in school functions.  We are excited that we are staying at our current school and will be part of the lincoln lynx team again.

Decathlon 2013

Carter was invited to be part of the 4th grade team for the decathlon competition in May.  Their PE teacher held timed competitions through out the year to see who would be on the team to represent the school.  She put together 3 teams of 4 that included 4-6th graders.  Carter was so excited to be part of this team!

Here is the 4th grade team: Carter, Sally, Quinn and Garrett.  The team had to consist of 2 boys and 2 girls to make it a fair competition.

Their team got 4th place out of 16 schools from around Davis County.  Way to go!!  To even make it even sweeter all 3 Lincoln teams placed...YAY!!.  The 5th graders got 3rd and the 6th graders got 2nd.  It was us and South Weber elementary that placed in every grade .  We are so awesome!!!

Here are some highlights of the events...which included dribbling, 200 meter dash, cup stacking, push ups, sit ups, sit and reach, jump roping, long jump, shuttle run and target throwing.  All the kids did so good! 

2012-2013 School Year has come to an end...

The month of May is just is flying by.  The school year has come to an end and I have mixed emotions about this.  Both kids had a amazing year at school and I just didn't want it to end for them.  For the past 2 months I've spent some time thinking about changing schools to the new Charter school that is opening up just down the street from us.  I gathered opinions from others, researched the curriculum and prayed about it.  I finally came to realization that this isn't the time to make the change and the past month at their current school just confirmed to me that they should stay at Lincoln and not attend the new school. I love the staff and teachers that we have come to know and they truly enjoy teaching.  This past month with being at the school a lot I had teaching staff come up to me and tell me personally that I have great kids and then they would precede to tell me something funny they did or how much they enjoy being around them.   I am sure the new school is going to great but, I had hesitation and I have learned through the years that if I am inspired to do something it doesn't take long to make the decision.  We are sad that some great kids will be leaving Lincoln, but we will see them around the neighborhood and at sporting events. 

The kids had their really good friends over on the last day of school for our traditional slushies.  They were wired and had the best time celebrating the last day of school.

Emily, Ashlynn and Erin (Emily is going to the new school and Erin is moving to NH)  These were such good friends to Ashlynn this year.  We are sad they are leaving!

Our summer has officially started...!

Field trip to The Planetarium

Ashlynn's class had their end of the year field trip to the Clark Planetarium. 

We loaded up a big yellow bus full of excited 2nd graders.

We ate lunch at fountains at the Gateway Mall and stared at the refreshing water fountains.

Then... we couldn't contain them from running in them.

It was a hot day and the kids just couldn't refrain.  So we let them play in the fountains.
Their teacher did send out a notice before the trip to the parents saying that she could not guarantee that they wouldn't get wet.

Ashlynn choose not to get soaked.  She only had a few drops on her.  The kids dried off just enough to get back on the bus to head back to the school.  I forgot to mention that after the fountains we had a movie time to make at the dome theater.  Some of the kids still had wet bums in the cushion chairs. ( I feel bad for the people that had the movie time after us.)
