Let the race begin...

The last and final race as a boy scout.  Since our evenings are filled with baseball and other activities the boys did not have much time to get their cars done. Carter's car turned out very cool and represented his baseball team the DC Flash car.  They were able to get it painted and let it dry over night and all I had to do was help with was putting on the wheels in the morning while Matt was at work.  Doesn't sound too hard right...well..it actually was a complete disaster.  Some super glue got in the wheel well and the wheel would not move properly.  So, we had put on different wheels that did not work as well.  So, I take complete blame for this car and its performance.  I think it came in second to last in the race.  We didn't score in performance but Carter got the most creative reward.
Most importantly is that we had a good time at the race and enjoyed being with friends and neighbors and can laugh about this in the future.


The cars below were the race track owners cars that he had on display.  They are pretty fancy!  The coffin car was made by one of Carter's scout friends.  It was very cool looking!

 

Bees Playoff Game

We spent a few evenings supporting the Bees Baseball team through the season.  We usually go at the beginning, middle and catch them at the end of season too.  We all have fun at these games. We were excited to enjoy our last game with no RAIN!  The past couple of years we have battled some unfavorable weather watching them.  The weather forecast did call for rain, so we brought our rain gear and the rain never came.  Yay!!

The Bees were in their final playoff games.  They played their first 2 games in Omaha and lost and then we caught up with them back in SLC for game 3.  The Bees won 9-0.  Wahoo!  It was such an awesome game and we had the best seats we have ever had since going to the games.  They were a few rows back behind the Bees dugout on the First Base line.  We landed an awesome deal for these tickets and also got to enjoy a firework show after the game.  It was the perfect way to end the season!

Since, the Bees won that game there was a game the next night, but they lost and the season is now over. (Sniff, Sniff)




Ashlynn loves the cotton candy.

 
The in-between innings contests are fun watch.  This contest included a running race between a pizza, ice cream cone and the Bee Mascot.  The Bee Mascot won!

The Mascot that Ashlynn is not a fan of.  She keeps track of him so that he doesn't come anywhere near her.  We have to keep track of her or she will bolt if he gets close to her.  The poor girl just doesn't like people dressed in costumes.  They just freak her out if she can't see their face.

Reading Garden Rocks

 

During the first day of school, the kids in each class got to paint a rock that was going to be displayed in the reading garden on the side of the school.  They told me about it all week, so on back to school night we took a tour through the garden to see their creations.  Carter's rock resembles the color of his pet birds.  Ashlynn's is painted like a cute purple and pink fish.  The garden was very colorful!  What a cute idea to add color to the reading garden.   

Boondocks evening fun...

 

 

We did some go-cart racing while attending a surprise party for a friend of ours at Boondocks. The kids had a blast driving their own cars!  And of course Carter had to get his time in the batting cages to hit a few baseballs.
 I love the fall weather here!  It won't last long before it starts getting cold so it was the perfect night to enjoy some outdoor evening fun.

DC Flash Baseball

After the Spring rec league of baseball and the All-Star games came to an end.  Carter decided that he was not going to do football in the fall, so he tried out for a competition league baseball team in July.  This team had a couple positions open on the team that 15 boys came to try out for.  The competition was good!  Carter did not make the team try-outs, but we were very glad that the decision was made for us.  After sitting through the 3 hour try-out practice, I was not impressed with the coaching staff of this team.  They were rude and right out mean to the kids.  I do have to admit that their team was good with lots of good talent on the team, but the coaches are teaching them poor sportsman manners.  I am sorry but you can be a tough coach but you can also have fun with this sport and teach these boys to have good sportsmanship that will help them be better team players when there older.

After the team try-out Carter and his friends were looking for other teams to join, but they were all full.  So, Matt got together with his coaching buddies and decided to put a team together to play in the Competition Fall League.  They held a few tryouts and was able to put together a team.  We have 12 boys that love this game and have awesome baseball skills!  Since this league is not connected to a city league team we had to come up with a name, colors, jerseys, hats and our own gear.  There is some cost that comes with playing on a comp. team, but if you split up the costs within in the players it is manageable.  Matt did his research and was determined to keep the costs down as much as possible and he did just that.

Our team name is the DC Flash (DC stands for Davis County, since we have kids from other nearby cities on our team), our colors are navy blue, grey and florescent green.  Matt designed the jerseys and hats with his own logo that he created.  He did a awesome job! They have been practicing all month to gear up for our first games on Saturday 8/24. 

 We are a brand new team that only has been together for a month, so we have some things we need to work on.  We played a double header on Saturday and did not come up with a win, but we can only learn more and get better.  We are playing teams that have been together for 2 or more years. 

Carter is playing second base and is going to be trying out the catcher position too.  I also have to add that this is the first time these boys have played player pitch baseball.  Most of them just finished machine pitch from the Spring.  This is all new to them too.  I love that these boys have fun!  I heard one of the boys say as he was running to get water that "We got our behinds kicked, but we had fun doing it!"

The season goes until October.  Hopefully the weather can stay nice to us to enjoy some more baseball.

Webelos Award Achieved...

 Carter achieved his Webelos Cub Scout Award last month!  He has the best Scout Leader and she does so much with the boys to get them their pins.  Carter also got 9 activity pins to along with his award.  That is pretty impressive!!  He is now working on his Arrow of Light award.  He is just one achievement away to getting it. 

1st Day of School...

So, here we are at the beginning of another school year.  We had a great summer and lots of memories to hang on to.  We enjoyed the extra month we had off being that our school changed from a year round school to a traditional school schedule this year.  We are going to miss our breaks throughout the year, but we can adjust and enjoy this new schedule.

This kids were excited to get back and see their friends!

Ashlynn is miss social and loves to have friends.  As we walked through the door to her new classroom her friends were so excited to see her and came up to give her hugs.  I could see that she was slightly embarrassed because she was turning red.  The poor girl inherited the easily flushed face from me.

Carter was excited to find out that one of his good friends is also in his class.  He is excited to have a boy teacher this year and was ready to start this new school year!

We are grateful to live in such a great place where the kids feel welcome at school and have great friends to support them.  Here's to another great school year and can't wait to see what new exciting things they learn this year!
